sunday night dinners

Some of my most cherished childhood memories come from sitting around the dining room table with my family. Sometimes it was Dad expounding at length about cars or history or grammar or childhood stories (“In MY day…”). Sometimes it was pulling out the dictionary or atlas or encyclopaedia (kids, go ask your parents what those words mean… OH MY GOD, when did I turn into my father?!) to corroborate whatever we were discussing. Sometimes it was sharing what was going on in our lives.

But always, it involved laughter. Lots and lots of laughter. As we grew up, family dinners didn’t happen every night – there were ballet classes and music lessons and soccer practice and part-time jobs and boyfriends. But most Sunday nights, we would gather again for a nice dinner and home-baked pie (mmm… pie…) and to connect as a family. Hence the name of this category: those Sunday Night Dinners where we caught up every week on what was happening in our lives.

Being so far away from my family is hands-down the hardest part of this traveling lifestyle. I miss them every day, and find it so hard that we’re not around more for my kids to enjoy their grandparents and aunts and uncles on a day to day basis. So, I try to send updates and keep in touch as best I can.

I will be sharing more of our day-to-day life here – where we’re headed, what we’ve done, how things are going.

It’s not SEO optimized. It’s not edited perfectly. The photos aren’t all perfect and optimized. It’s drawn from updates that I sent in real time to family back home or posts that I dashed off in hotel rooms late at night as we traveled from one location to another. I hope you enjoy this more unvarnished look into our journey!
